Hello, research!

I’m beginning to regret not taking this subject (or something similar) when it was offered to me in third year of my undergrad course. Having had previous research experience would have made this year (and a half) a little easier.

I’ve had quite a bit of experience writing research essay after research essay, but I know that coming up with 2,000 – 2,500 on cinema or TV studies isn’t what this course is about.

In terms of my research, I am looking to explore the explosion of social media and its uses – whether through online publishing, digital marketing or otherwise.

I recognise that it would be great, at this stage, to know exactly what I would like to research but sadly that’s not the case. So, to narrow down my ideas, I’ve begun thinking about the pros and cons of social media research.

+ Information and examples are widely available
+ Conducting research questionnaires would provide varying opinions, i.e. Gen Y v. Baby Boomers.

What do I want to know and why?
How will I differentiate my research from what has already been done?
Is social media a ‘tired’ topic?
